In the spirit of showcasing truly disruptive ideas and engaging our audience in more intimate settings beyond our annual conference, TEDxPurdueU sought to create a recurring series of events with an entirely new atmosphere. This season, our team is proud to present “TEDxPurdueU Breakout Sessions”.

The 2013-2014 iteration of this series will focus on the three pillars of TED: Technology, Entertainment and Design, with each of the three events highlighting Purdue faculty, alumni and students who are true innovators within one of these fields. Live speakers will combine with TED talks in small, community-centric settings to spark deep discussion and an examination of the critical issues at the forefront of our highly dynamic culture.

On Friday, February 7th in Fowler Hall, TEDxPurdueU is excited to present a screening of the critically-acclaimed independent film “Following the Ninth: In the Footsteps of Beethoven’s Final Symphony”. In conjunction with our primary event sponsor, Purdue Convocations, the screening will be followed by a discussion and Q&A session with the film’s director, Kerry Candaele.

Mr. Candaele is an upcoming 2014 TEDxPurdueU speaker, and producer of previous expository documentaries such as “Iraq for Sale”, and “Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price”. He makes his directorial debut with a film exploring not only the musical intricacies of the Ninth, but the modern cultural and political impact Beethoven’s masterwork has had worldwide.

Check out the trailer on the film’s website, as well as glowing reviews from the New York Times and NPR’s Bill Moyers.
